In dairy and juice processing the liquids must be transported around site with as little human contact as possible. An automated routing system reduces this contact as well as decreasing the risk of losses due to human error. The liquid is transported from one piece of equipment to another by the use of a series of pipe work, pumps and valves. Where multiple sources have to be routed to multiple destination it is typical for a valve matrix to be used. An automatically operated cleaning system that delivers a number of wash and rinse cycles to the internal surfaces of processing equipment such as, Tanks, Piping, Pasteurisers, Filling machines etc. Typical cleaning cycles in a CIP system for Food and Beverage processes consist of a ‘Water rinse’ phase followed by a ‘Caustic wash’ a ‘Second water rinse’ and then a combination of either Acid or Sterilent phases. ABEL have extensive experience in installing new CIP systems as well as upgrading more manual systems to a greater standard of automation.

Pigging

Pigging

Pigging refers to the practice of using devices known as "pigs" to perform various maintenance operations on a pipeline. This is done without stopping the flow of the product in the pipeline. This can include cleaning and inspecting the pipeline. This is accomplished by inserting the pig into a 'launcher'. The launcher / launching station is then closed and the pressure-driven flow of the product in the pipeline is used to push it along down the pipe until it reaches the receiving trap.

Industrial membrane filtration plants were introduced to the dairy industry in the beginning of the 1970's. The basis for using membrane filtration in the dairy industry is that dry matter components in milk and whey particles consist of different sizes. By selecting filters/membranes of different pore sizes and applying pressure on the product to be filtered, it is possible to divide the milk and whey. The two products can then be used for different processes within the dairy.
